What’s on your trance playlist?
Trance is a genre of electronic dance music that developed in the 1990s; generally characterized by a tempo of between 120 and 145 bpm, repeating melodic synthesizer phrases, and a musical form that builds up and breaks down throughout a track. It is a combination of many forms of music such as techno, house, industrial, new age, pop, chill-out, ambient,a electronic art music, classical music, and film music. —Wikipedia
I don’t know why I am suddenly craving for trance music. It started sometime in January when I first got hold of Wawa’s The Sun. The original mix is not the one I have on loop on my mp3 player (I am listening to it as I write this); I know this because when I checked the video on YouTube, the arrangement was different. I don’t even know who was responsible for the remixed version but having it max on my music player, I cannot help but be entranced, especially when the music changes from the upbeat, tribal-like eh-eh-eh intro into an orgasmic cornucopia of tunes hard not to like: the drum rolls, the repetitive vocals, even whistles thrown in just for the heck of it. The build-up is just effed-up that you’ll be more than blown away when it reaches its climax, in the middle of the song nonetheless, where everything plummets down, you lost in synths and orgasmic moans of sorts that I feel I am physically with the female lead vocal, doing it with her. This is $#!+ music!
So after barely recovering from that auricular bliss, the next best thing to do was to lay my hands on more. In no time I was able to build up my own trance playlist, a playlist that has kept me head and feet thumping and entranced at the same time. And I think I slept with more women in a few hours just listening to them! Wynter Gordon, the girl from Delirium, Erika Jayne, Kaci Battaglia, Sibel, Zayra, et al. I My collection I’d like to think almost borders on hardcore trance. It’s primarily playlist fodder for clubs and high-end bars, and I’ve been to just one, imagine! I am not into the club scene and I have two left feet so don’t ask, but head and feet thumping while atuned to the best trance music on the bus, while leisurely ambling in the metro or the malls, or at the comfort of my bed, is something I am more willing to do to show how besotted I am with this type of music.
You won’t chance upon me listening to trance in public though; by that I mean people in the proximity hearing what I have blaring on my earbuds. I’d probably raise eyebrows. For one I don’t look like the type who has music other than rock on his mp3 player. My first love is still rock music, and my rock playlist outnumbers all other genres in my hard drive. But in the recent years I have come to love other forms as well: jazz, bossa nova, chillout of the downtempo/ambient subgenre, and now trance. The songs below are fairly new and are the creme of the crop from my collection. Get a hold of them, in their remixed versions, unless otherwise stated, and be entranced.
Wawa – The Sun (Unknown Remixer)
Sultan and Ned Shepard ft. Nadia Ali – Call My Name (Max Graham & Protoculture Extended Mix)
Wynter Gordon – Dirty Talk (Hagenaar & Albrecht Remix)
Delirium – Dust in Gravity (Niels Van Gogh vs Dave Ramone Mix)

Tinie Tempah f. Swedish House Mafia – Miami 2 Ibiza (Original Mix)
Erika Jayne – One Hot Pleasure (Dave Aude Mix)
Kaci Battaglia – Body Shots (Dave Aude Club Mix)

Kyau & Albert – Once in a Lifetime (Club Mix)
Bastien Lava ft. Layla – Restlessness (M. Torrez Vocal Mix)
Alex Sayz ft. Sibel – United As One (Offir Malol Remix)

I like how you mentioned the technical aspects of trance music as well as the history behind it (the number of beats, etc).
I’ve always found trance music to be interesting, until recently i was baptized by someone close to my heart to the world of trance…
I wondered what songs that people listen to and that particular song totally puts them in trance and also the song that puts them in their own world and makes you forget everything but keeps total freedom and happiness in your soul?
Here is my list for now
Ulrich Schnauss – Blumenwiese Neben Autobahn
Ulrich Schnauss- Crazy For You
Silverstein- I Am The Arsonist
Enter Shikari- Mothership
And last but not the least, even thou it’s often categorized as New Age music are the Enya songs – which often put me into deep trance(sleep). lol.

I have Ulrichs also. I believe it belongs to the ambient/electronic type of chillout music. I like Silverstein. I’ll go check out I Am The Arsonist! Thanks.

Ulrich is a GENIUS! Perhaps it is just my own background that makes the attitudes here impress me so. Growing up, i remember my mother had a single classical record (Peter and the Wolf) that she played for us on her record player when she wanted to expose us to her culture. Otherwise, I never heard any classical music, ever, except maybe on television, on a comedy, when they wanted to portray a character as snooty or “cultured”.

Here’s another list of Trance songs i’m hooked up with, although I don’t know if the’Dreamweaver’ is a Trance? Although the melodies in the song are somewhat of that kind that would be heard in ambient trance. The instruments are entirely different, and it lacks the “arpeggiation” and beats. Although I think it’s made in a “game tracker” type program? Maybe that would explain the somewhat tinny, 80′s synth sound of it, not a bad song though.
Here’s my list:
Dreamweaver – A King is Born
Fir and Ice – Souvenir De Chine
Digger – Church of Ra
Delerium and Sarah McLachlan – Silence
